Sundin Signs with Canucks

Mats Sundin finally ended his hold-out and signed with the Vancouver Canucks this week. I was definitely glad to see him go to a Western Conference team, instead of the Rangers who are currently fighting with Boston for the top spot in the East.

I don't think there's any doubt he will help the Canucks, but even with Sundin I don't think they have what it takes to overtake the West's elite teams, the Red Wings and the Sharks. What do you think?

Hah! Why would the Rangers sign Sundin, when they're already met their quota of Swedish former captains by signing Markus Naslund?

Too bad the Blackhawks didn't sign Sundin. They've historically had made a hobby of signing aging superstars (Paul Coffey, Doug Gilmour, John Tonelli, Wendell Clark, etc.)

Toronto have a history of discarding stars and infighting with management.

All one can hope for is that the LEAFS construct a team of youthful talent like the the BLACKHAWKS.

But don't count on it. It should still be an exciting season.
